What to Expect

Chiropractic care extensively deals with fixing of body aches and recurring joint pains. Your body must go through an individual plan of care in order to repair itself correctly and fully. There are three general phases of chiropractic care:

Phase 1: Relief Care

If you come to us in pain our first goal is to help you feel better. You will go through this therapy 2-4 times a week, from the time the pain is felt until it subsides. Usually 4-12 weeks.

The majority of patients consult a chiropractic physician because they have an ache or pain. In the first phase of chiropractic care, the main objective is to reduce or eliminate your discomfort and stabilize your condition in the shortest amount of time. Treatment during this stage may consist of various forms of physical therapy, ice therapy to reduce swelling, and chiropractic adjustments of the spine. During this phase, progress is often rapid.

The number of times you visit a chiropractic physician during this phase of chiropractic care can vary and is depends upon your specific condition. If you do not respond to chiropractic care during this phase, you may be referred to another health-care provider.

Phase 2: Corrective Care

When a body gets injured the spine tends to weaken. During the corrective phase our goal is to help you heal more completely. This phase of care is generally needed 4-8 times per month for 6-24 months.

Once your condition stabilizes and your pain is reduced, you enter the second phase of chiropractic care, where the objective is to correct the cause of your discomfort, strengthen the muscles, and improve neuro-musculoskeletal function. The frequency of office visits is reduced over a period of two to six weeks. Care may be supplemented by rehabilitation exercises, nutrition, and modification of daily habits.

It is important to remember that many of the conditions for which people seek chiropractic care have developed over many years; therefore, correcting these problems is a true rehabilitative process. It helps to understand that it takes time to correct these conditions.

Phase 3: Wellness Care

Once you have recovered it is important to receive regular adjustments in order to prevent further injuries.

Next you move to the wellness phase, which is designed to maintain your improved health, encourage normal spinal function, prevent the return of the original condition, and catch small problems before they become serious. A personal wellness program will be designed to teach you how to incorporate good nutrition and exercise habits into your everyday life, thereby promoting vitality, endurance, and the ability to enjoy your life to its fullest.
